Jump ship to freedom - Discuss the plot

    As I finished the book, I understand what the 14 years old Daniel had to got through as he was cheated out of his life. His father, who recently died at sea, had fought in the Revolutionary War. For his service, Daniel's father was paid in "soldiers' notes," a written promise of cash at a future date. When Daniel's father died, Daniel's master took the notes. Daniel believes the notes belong to him and his mother. Daniel's master, Captain Ivers, distrusts Daniel and takes him on his next voyage with the intent of selling him in the West Indies. Daniel's mother stays with Mrs. Ivers, the captain's wife. So now Daniel has to go on a voyage separating him from his mother. As the voyage goes on him and Birdsey become lost at sea. Which is a heavy experience for a young African American to handle. As a young boy, he plans quite good diversion such as when he lit a smoky fire in his Master's house to steal back his revolutionary notes. Daniel receives help from a slave girl named Carrie, a tavern owner named Black Sam Fraunces and an ailing Quaker named Peter Fatherscreft. Daniel learns that men representing the 13 states have gathered in Philadelphia to write a constitution joining the states into a single nation. Daniel hopes the new government will be able to repay the Revolutionary War notes so Daniel can buy his and his mother's freedom. The most pressured part of the book is when Daniel's travels as a runaway slave. Fatherscreft dies before reaching Philadelphia with the message. Before dying, he asks Daniel to deliver the message to William Samuel Johnson. Daniel agrees to deliver the message, but he realizes that the message seals his fate to remain a slave. His promise to Fatherscreft overpowers Daniel's desire to run. Daniel delivers the message, and the compromise becomes part of the Constitution. The books is very adventurous but also emotional. It kept me thinking what was Daniel gonna do in the next situation he got in.

   In reading a new book about a boy named Daniel Arabus and his mother who are slaves in the house of Captain Ivers of Stratford, Connecticut. By law they should be free, since Daniel's father fought in the Revolutionary army and earned enough in soldiers' notes to buy his family's freedom. The fact is that Daniel's father is now dead, and the captain's wife has taken the notes for Daniel's mother.

      I wanted to discuss a courageous part of the plot. Daniel had built up enough courage to try to steal his and his mother's freedom papers.Daniel makes a smoky fire in his master's house as a diversion so he can steal the notes. Daniel's master, Captain Ivers, distrusts Daniel and takes him on his next voyage with the intent of selling him in the West Indies. Daniel is in constant danger of being caught because people tend to suspect a lone, unfamiliar, young black man as a runaway slave.

Never Fall down-Describe a Character

Never Fall Down begins with Arn dancing to rock ‘n’ roll and selling ice cream, and ends with him addressing large audiences in America on the horrors he faced in Cambodia. The book itself is quite short but Arn’s journey is a long and hard one. He experiences the terrors of genocide firsthand in the labour camp, where he is forced to work after being separated from his aunt and siblings, and is later handed a gun and forced to become a soldier. While others around him are murdered by the Khmer Rouge or succumb to illness, starvation or exhaustion, Arn manages to survive by following his aunt’s advice of blowing where the wind blows, as well as his own philosophy to never fall down. He does anything in his power to survive, from learning revolutionary songs that are in high-demand by the soldiers and becoming ‘famous’ to doing things that will haunt him in later life.

   The only reason i wrote the summary of the book is because I have finished the book and was fascinated on how the book was. i waned to describe the main character(Arn Chorn-Pond) because as we see the book is a non-fiction meaning that everything we read is true. As representative of Amnesty international and founder of Children of War(pg.212), he has traveled and shared the stage with many around the world. It seems Arm wants to make change. Arn has been speaking out about the genocide in Cambodia ever since the day i n 1984.

Never Fall Down-Authors purpose

         In the 1970's, Arn is just your average boy in Cambodia. He sells ice cream with his brother to get some extra money and loves rock and roll. But then the soldiers come, and his life is forever changed. He is separated from his family and forced to work in a blazing hot rice paddy, witnessing things a twelve-year-old boy should never see. One day, when a soldier asks if he is able to play a musical instrument, Arn says he can, although he cannot. He knows how these men value their sacred revolutionary songs and hopes that playing the men their songs just might save his life. He is correct, but his bit of freedom comes with a horrible price. This is as far I got in the reading.

          The books graphic nature is beyond a young student compatibility. From the explicit shooting at the toy village (pg.132) where no one was left alive. But also when the Vietnamese was slicing the villagers non-stop(pg.140), but even the harmless such as a mother and her baby. But one more when Arn hears the sound of crushing skulls three times a day(pg.66). I think the reason Patricia used such explicit scenes to show how the Vietnamese war really went on and not candy coat it. 

          

NASCAR-Describe a character

Many don't know who Richard Petty is. When this name comes up he is known as the King of NASCAR. Petty ruled stock car racing for more than 30 years. His father was also a champion driver. He was born in 1937 in North Carolina. He first as crew chief on his father's car before he was old enough to drive. He has won 200 races in his career but came to the end of one road in 1992, and soon retired. Many say that the popularity of NASCAR has a lot to do with Petty himself. The fans loved him.

As I finished off  reading  the book gave more information on NASCAR driving. I've learned that drivers practice there skills very young with little cars called quarter midgets. They have the basics; wheels, engine, fuel tank, and a seat. One of the drivers, Darrell Waltrip, said that ambition is what need to win. He said "every driver needs to have for in their belly." My dad always said to improve on the court I gonna have to want it myself. Not for others,but myself. That if I want to get better I have to go get it.

NASCAR- Make a Connection

IN NASCAR, the book stated that the sport is a team sport, as each team member has his or her role on the racing team. If its the driver to being the one who changes the tires in super fast speeds. Each role is important and is needed to have a successful race. It reminds me of the sport, basketball. In basketball there are five people per team on the court at a time. There's the point guard who is responsible for bringing the ball court. Also, there's a big man who is responsible for getting points on the inside but also getting rebounds on defense and offence. This relation just reminded me of this sport.

NASCAR-Discuss a scene

      It is known to all people that NASCAR'S racetracks are ovals. But most people do not known that all racetracks are different. Every racetrack's banking( upward slope at the end of each turn that allow driver to go faster on turns) has a different angle degree, so drivers have know what turn and lap they are on. This is why so many NASCAR drivers do this, its exciting for them in a way.As people may thinks NASCAR driving is easy and that's why many crashes happen at events.

    The book I'm reading is not a story but more a informative reference where it tells me a lot about the history of NASCAR. The reason I said scene because it was a piece of information that was yet again unknown to me. Well if your reading this I bet you had no idea that the dashboard of a NASCAR car doesn't have a speedometer( tell how fast your going in mph or kph), or odometer( tells you how far you've have gone). The gauges show how hot the engine oil is and how hot the water is. Weird but yet true. This information nice to know as I read on every chapter, I learn a little something knew each time.

NASCAR-Describe a character

    As i finished Chapter 1, I learned the history of NASCAR and where it was born. One person who I  never knew was famous for what he brought to the nation was named William Henry Getty France also known as Bill France. Bill France IS the father of NASCAR. France was an auto mechanic and a racing fan who came into play when ticket sellers would skip out pay for the racers. He also built the famous Daytona International Speedway in 1959. I felt this was important information because I learned some thing new of our nation's history.

NASCAR-Authors purpose

         Is I read the introduction I see that this book is a reference book. Its nonfiction and gives valid information. I don't know how recent this information is but its valid. I see that the authors purpose of this book, already by the introduction is to inform the reader or audience of the life NASCAR. Did you know that NASCAR is the fastest growing sport in the nation. From 1990 to 2000, the number of fans at racetracks rose by over 90 percent.

Macbeth-Discuss a scene

     As I finish Act 5, the books ends with the dead of Macbeth. As Macduff finishes Macbeth with head on stick. And we see that Malcom who was rightfully fit to be King, is now king of Scotland. It was a fierce battle as it looked like Macbeth was getting the upper hand but Macduff puts all his rage and anger together to finish him off. The whole story was continued by the thought of Macbeth being king of all of Scotland.

 As i finished Act 4, Macduff's  son has been murdered. Macduff is anger and has set revenge on who ever has done this treacherous thing.
  I wanted to discuss this scene because as Macduff has fled to England , away from the castle, his wife, Lady Macduff,escapes while  their so has been murdered in cold blood. we are yet to know who are these three evil murderers, but as this happens more chaos will continue while Macbeth is King.

Macbeth- Discuss a scene

   I just finished reading Act 2 and as it ended, someone has killed King Duncan. As I remember that was the plan of Lady Macbeth(to make Macbeth King instead) the whole time and it was to involve Lord Macbeth. The plan had involved blaming the Guards and the guards were killed for murder and treason.


    I wanted to discuss a scene within the story. After King Duncan Killing his son,Malcolm, had fled to England as if he was being targeted. This left the title of King to Macbeth( Lady Macbeth plan the whole time) as Malcolm could not have it as he was put upon the suspicion of the deadly deed. Lady Macbeth's plan is going smooth as we still don't know who killed King Duncan.

Macbeth-Predicting Whats Next

  I have starting to read the book, Macbeth,  by William Shakespeare. As I have finished Act 1, I have got little info on what the story is about. As I ended the Act off, I saw that Macbeth's wife, Lady Macbeth wants to kill Duncan who is the king of Scotland. Her purpose of this is so that her husband can become king of both Scotland and Glamis.

  My prediction of what's gonna happen the next Act is that Macbeth will murder the king. I make this prediction based on what Lady Macbeth had so persuaded Macbeth. About all the wealth and power he will have if king. Macbeth will fall to pressure to please his wife.

Teaching Chess And Life-Discuss a Scene

   The story was about a bot named Carlos who lived in a dangerous neighborhood and was gifted with a mentor like figure named Jeremy who taught him about chess but also more about life. As he grew up he was taught the right things in life by his mentor such as "good sportsmanship". He later grew up to be an assistant coach.
    There was a scene in the story that caught my attention and decided to talk about it. Carlos was at a chess tournament and playing for a top prize. Carlos had got a winning combination and began to brag about it. The reason i bring this scene up is the fact that Jeremy was his mentor and stopped the whole game to correct Carlos on his mistake and gave his a lesson on good sportsmanship. That was an example to which how Carlos' mentor has helped him throughout his life.

Teaching Chess and Life

  The reading talks about how finding a activity that you enjoy and can keep you out of trouble that is exampled mostly everywhere on the streets.When that times come, you'll meet someone who will carry you towards your goal in life.This is called a mentor. I had made my own connection to the text. My father had made a major impact in my life. When i was young my father introduced me to drawing because he knew that would keep me from doing the wrong things out on the street. As I see now, it did and he kept me going, developing my skills, keeping me on track towards my goal. My goal was to be an artist for top cartoon/anime businesses.
